Tour Overview

Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary sits in the Jorhat district of Assam, less than an hour's drive east of Kaziranga along NH37. This 2-day extension focuses on Hoolock Gibbons, canopy birding, and a nocturnal spotlight walk for Bengal Slow Loris inside a semi-evergreen forest unlike anything in Kaziranga's open grasslands.

Hoolock Gibbons are India's only ape. They call through the canopy in pairs and family groups, and locating them at dawn is one of northeast India's most memorable wildlife moments.

The forest canopy holds Great Hornbill, Rufous-Necked Hornbill, Barbets, and Broadbills, species that rarely appear in open grassland reserves. The nocturnal walk with a naturalist adds the Bengal Slow Loris, one of the most elusive mammals in the entire northeast.

  • Hoolock Gibbons, India's only ape, calling through the canopy at dawn
  • Dawn gibbon chorus walk, one of northeast India's finest wildlife moments
  • Nocturnal spotlight walk for Bengal Slow Loris with a naturalist guide
  • Great Hornbill and Rufous-Necked Hornbill in the upper canopy
  • Barbets and Broadbills across semi-evergreen forest interior
  • Strong canopy birding contrast to Kaziranga's open grassland species
  • Small sanctuary with focused wildlife access and very few visitors
