Interview Island Wildlife Sanctuary

Interview Island Wildlife sanctuary is one of the beautiful place and the main attraction of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

In the year 1985, it was officially declared as the wildlife sanctuary for protecting the elephants. The total area of the Interview Island Wildlife Sanctuary is about 133 sq km and it is also famous for its unbelievable flora and fauna.

Along with Elephants, the sanctuary also shelters some of the species of spotted deer, wild pig, Three-striped palm squirrel, Palm Civet, Andaman Masked Palm Civet, and more. The place is a great spot for bird photography.

The sanctuary can be visited throughout the year, the climate is mild and comfortable to explore.

Landfall Island Wildlife Sanctuary

The Landfall Island Wildlife sanctuary is a beautiful place located in the northernmost island of Andaman archipelago. The beautiful surroundings cover blue lagoons and clear sandy beaches give satisfaction to every nature lover.

This sanctuary was established in the year 1987 and has the total area of about 14.70 sq km It is covered with the tropical mangroves rainforests, lagoons, sandy beaches, and many more things.

Whereas, the marine ecosystem is one of the most well-preserved ecosystems, which has a different kind of fish and corals.

The best time to visit this beautiful Landfall Island Wildlife Sanctuary in the months of November to April.

Lohabarrack Salt Water Crocodile Sanctuary

Lohabarrack Salt Water Crocodile Sanctuary was named after a village which is near to the sanctuary. It is located about 30 km away from the capital, Port Blair, towards the north of the Marine National Park and to the Southern Andaman Island.

It was officially declared as the wildlife sanctuary in the year 1983 to protecting the saltwater crocodiles. It spread in over 100 sq km and it is the home to rich biodiversity with respect to flora and fauna.

The sanctuary is surrounded by the luxuriant mangroves and tropical evergreen forests and also displays a perfect natural beauty.

Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park or Wandoor National Park

Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park is located about 30 km from Port Blair on the South Western coast of South Andaman. It is also popular by the name Wandoor National Park.

The park established in the year 1983 with a total area of the park is about 281.50 sq km. It is the ideal destination for the nature lover because of its rich flora and fauna.

The park was basically established to protect the sea turtles, marine life and a variety of coral reefs. The National park was closed in the year 2004 because the tsunami struck in the area and damage the place. It was reopened again for the tourists.

The best time to visit the Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park is between November to February. The park remains closed between June to August due to heavy rains.

Mount Harriet National Park is located in the district of Andaman and the place is shown on the opposite side on an Indian 20 rupee note.

Mount Harriet National Park was declared as the national park in the year 1987 and has the total area of over 46.62 sq km.

The Mount Harriet National Park contains some of the highest peaks in the Andaman Islands.  The park is though covered with the dense evergreen and semi-evergreen of outstanding natural beauty.

Although, the park can be visited and open throughout the year, the best time to visit this beautiful national park is between the months of January to March.

Saddle Peak National Park

Saddle Peak National Park is located in Andaman district, which is famous for its dominant flora and fauna. The forest land is covered by the luxuriant lush green and tropical evergreen rain forest.

It was named after Saddle Peak and is the highest point in the North Andaman island. The total area of the park is about 85.47 sq km and it was declared as the national park in the year 1987.

Moreover, the park is popular as it shelters some of the most endangered species of flora and fauna. Whereas, the vegetation found in this region is unique and rare.

The best time to explore the national park is between the months of November to March, although the park is open throughout the year for the tourists. June to October is usually rainy season here and the temperature ranges from 20 to 30 degree celsius.
