Interesting Fact – Nagzira
The name itself comes from a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva (Nagdeo) and a perennial source of water (zira) located deep inside the forest. The forests of Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary were once ruled by the Gond kings. The Gond people are one of the largest indigenous tribes in India, with a rich cultural heritage.

Safari Zones or Gates
As Nagzira is not an extremely large park, it only has 2 zones, each with one main gate for jeep entries. They are buffer zones, encircling the core zone as that is the only area where safaris take place here.
Chorkhamara Zone
The entry gate for jeeps for this zone is the Pitezari Gate. It has a hilly terrain with dry deciduous forests. This provides a canopy effect and dense foliage giving shelter to the carnivores and herbivores alike.
This zone provides an isolating and personalized experience with only a limited capacity of 20 jeeps allowed here at any given time.
Umarzai Zone
This zone is accessed through the Jambhadi Gate and renowned for the breathtaking view of the Navegaon Lake. This lake is the most appealing for the rich bird population of residential and migratory birds.
The zone has transitionary landscapes from dry jungles to lush meadows. Similar to Chorkhamara, 20 jeeps are permitted at a time for entry. This ensures for a peaceful and luxurious exploration.

Canter Safari
Canter safaris are conducted in groups of 16 people per canter. The canter safaris offer a 5-hour ride from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 3 hours from 3.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m. This provides an excellent opportunity to explore wildlife and see tigers.

Weather in Nagzira
Nagzira National Park experiences a diverse climate throughout the year.
The winter months between October to February are the peak tourist season with pleasant climate. The weather is dry and moderately sunny with temperatures between 10°C to 25°C
Summer months of March till May are hot and humid. Temperatures go from 25°C till as high as 45°C. Birdwatchers may target this season to spot migratory birds.
Lastly, the monsoon season lasts from July to September. The park generally remains closed during this time as it also the breeding season for wildlife. Temperatures go from 28°C to 36°C with variations due to rains.

The nearest airport is Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport (Nagpur Airport) (IATA: NAG) at a distance of approximately 130 kilometers. From there, book a cab or taxi that will take you directly to the park.
By Road
Major cities like Mumbai and Pune are easily connected to Nagpur through NH 6 highway followed by State Highway 47 to Sakoli.
By Rail
The nearest railway stations are Gondia Junction (GND) – 45 kilometers from the park. Tirora Railway Station (TKRA) – 19 kilometers from the park. Utilize the state transport buses or take a taxi from the station to the park.
